Syrians in Sudan

Syrians left their country because of the war and went to Sudan. They don’t want to think about the idea of going back.

Syrians who lived in Sudan thought that the sounds of bombs, rockets, and gunfire were coming from behind them.

They moved to Sudan, another Arab country, to get away from the war in their own country.

During their flight from Khartoum, many Syrian families were threatened, robbed, and sometimes killed by gangs. Unknown gangs have taken some families hostage as they were leaving Khartoum.

More than 3,1 million people have had to leave their homes in Sudan because of a war that is still going on.

Sudan has been in chaos since mid-April, when months of fighting between the military and its rival, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, broke out in the country’s city, Khartoum, and other places.

The International Organization for Migration says that more than 2.4 million people have left their homes and moved to better places inside the country. About 738,000 people went into nearby states.

More than 72% of those who were forced to leave their homes were from Khartoum, and about 9% were from West Darfur area, where most of the fighting has taken place.

About 65% of the people who fled to nearby countries were Sudanese, and the rest were foreigners and refugees who are trying hard to get back home.

a need for aid right away because there aren’t enough basic things to live on, like milk and diapers for kids.

Leading the Emergency Response for Syrians in Sudan: Your Critical Role

This is an outlines the urgent and critical objectives for the “Syrians in Sudan Emergency Response” project. The leadership in this initiative is paramount, as we aim to provide immediate and life-saving humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees who have been tragically caught in a new and devastating conflict in Sudan.

The situation demands immediate and decisive action. Syrian families, having fled war in their homeland, sought refuge in Sudan only to face renewed violence, displacement, and extreme peril. Reports of threats, robberies, abductions by gangs, and a severe lack of basic necessities underscore the profound vulnerability of this population. With over 3.1 million people displaced in Sudan, and Syrians among the most exposed, our intervention is not just essential – it is a moral imperative.

The core responsibilities in leading this emergency response will include:

  • Rapid Needs Assessment: Immediately establishing and refining protocols for on-the-ground needs assessments to identify the most critical and urgent requirements of Syrian families, particularly regarding food (especially milk and diapers for children), shelter, safety, and medical needs.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Overseeing the procurement, transportation, and distribution of aid, navigating challenging and insecure environments to ensure timely delivery of essential supplies. This includes identifying safe routes and reliable local partners.
  • Safety and Protection Protocols: Developing and implementing robust safety protocols for both aid workers and beneficiaries, particularly in light of reports of gang violence and abductions. This requires close coordination with security actors and ensuring safe havens where possible.
  • Partnership and Coordination: Forging and strengthening partnerships with local community leaders, international NGOs already operating in Sudan, and any relevant UN agencies to maximize reach and impact, avoid duplication, and ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Emergency Fund Management: Overseeing the rapid and transparent deployment of donated funds to meet immediate humanitarian needs, ensuring strict financial accountability in an emergency context.
  • Communication and Reporting: Ensuring timely and accurate reporting on the evolving situation, aid distribution, challenges encountered, and the immediate impact of our interventions for both internal stakeholders and donors.
  • Team Mobilization and Support: Rapidly mobilizing and supporting a dedicated team of aid workers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and ability to operate effectively in a high-stress environment.
  • Adaptability and Responsiveness: Leading with flexibility and the ability to adapt strategies quickly in response to the rapidly changing security and humanitarian landscape in Sudan.

The ability to lead with compassion, operate under extreme pressure, and make critical decisions quickly will define the success of this project. The lives and dignity of countless Syrian families depend on our swift and effective action. We have full confidence in your capacity to lead this vital emergency response.
