Empowering Syrian Widows Through Education and Skill-Building

This initiative focuses on providing vital educational and vocational training opportunities specifically for Syrian widows, who represent a particularly vulnerable segment of the refugee population. Recognizing the immense challenges they face as often the sole providers for their families, this project aims to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve economic independence and build a more secure future.

Drawing from the Syrian Women’s Platform project, we aim to create a supportive digital and physical infrastructure that offers:

  • Digital Literacy and Skills Development: Online courses, workshops, and training programs focused on essential digital skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, and civic engagement. This will empower widows to access information, connect with opportunities, and participate more fully in their communities.
  • Mental Health and Well-being Support: Access to online counseling, therapy resources, and support groups tailored to address the trauma, grief, and other mental health challenges faced by widows. Creating a safe and supportive learning environment is paramount.
  • Legal and Social Services Information: Providing a readily accessible directory of legal aid, gender-based violence support, and social welfare programs relevant to their needs.

Complementing this digital empowerment, the Women’s Sewing Center component will offer:

  • Comprehensive Sewing and Embroidery Training: A dedicated training facility providing thorough instruction in sewing and embroidery skills, led by qualified trainers and designers. This hands-on training will equip widows with a tangible and marketable skill.
  • Pathways to Self-Sufficiency: Following the training, the center will transition into a business where the women can utilize their skills to create and sell clothing, earning a percentage of the income and fostering economic independence.
  • Community and Peer Support: The center will serve as a vital space for widows to connect, share experiences, and build a supportive network.

By combining digital resources for broader empowerment with targeted vocational training in a skill like sewing, this project offers a holistic approach to supporting Syrian widows. It aims to not only provide them with the means to earn a livelihood but also to foster their overall well-being, build their confidence, and enable them to actively shape a better future for themselves and their families.
